MONTICELLO – Leo E. LeFay, 88, passed away April 16, 2015, at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Caribou. He was born April 25, 1926, at Stowe, Vermont, the son of Theodore LeFay, Sr. and Edith (Fisher) LeFay.
Leo served in the U.S. Army as a parachutist. He married Betty Stewart in 1951 and they were happily married for 43 years until her passing in 1995. Leo was a heavy equipment operator in Connecticut for many years. He retired in 1977 and they moved to Florida, then to Monticello in 1994.
Leo was a 50-year Mason. He enjoyed hunting, boating and playing cards, especially poker and cribbage. Leo was very family oriented. His family always came first. He will be remembered by many for his very dry sense of humor.
Leo is survived by his daughter, Lynda C. Jewell and her husband “Buz” of Monticello; three grandchildren, Jessica Jewell Galbioti and her husband, Scott of Bangor, Lindsey Jewell Hughes and her husband, Pat of Boulder, Colorado, Lisa Jewell of Washington, DC; great-grand-daughter, Raleigh Jewell Galbioti of Bangor; two brothers, Theodore LeFay, Jr. of Houlton, Leslie LeFay and his wife, Nelly, of Oakfield; brother-in-law, Donald Stewart and his wife, Carol, of Houlton; sister-in-law, Polly Stewart, of Presque Isle; several nieces and nephews. Leo was predeceased by his parents; his wife of 43 years, Betty (Stewart) LeFay; brother, Wilfred “Buster” LeFay; sisters, Gila Laing, Betty Roy, Lena Peters and Elizabeth McNinch.
