Ark Animal Sanctuary

Earlier this year, we told you about Bubbles the little kitten that was found in the snow bank in below zero weather. We thought that we would give you an update on her. She is still at the vet. They have been able to provide her with a foster home, where she gets everything she could possibly need. I visited with her this week and she is just a sweet kitten full of life and energy. Not to mention she is a real beauty. Her markings are stunning!

LO Ark dcx pt 14The Ark Animal Sanctuary Memorial Art Show/Supper benefits held at The Horn on March 20 and The Elks Lodge on April 4 were a huge success. Ark officials expressed thanks to the artists from around the world and United States who donated original works of art in the form of portraits of each of the 16 cats who perished in the sanctuary fire in March 2014. The fundraisers together raised more than $2,000 toward the Ark’s rebuilding campaign. The portraits will eventually grace the walls of the new sanctuary.

These days, she sports a little pink harness and blue soft paws (caps for her nails so she can’t scratch). It is clear that she loves her foster mom, Lynn, who is also a vet tech. When Bubbles first arrived at The Ark, she had a severe infection which took well over a month to get under control. The good news is that the infection is gone. The bad news there is permanent nerve damage. What does this mean for Bubbles? Bubbles is what we call a Manx, meaning she was born with no tail and nerve damage is not an uncommon thing for many Manx.
Because of the nerve damage, Bubbles is not able to go to the bathroom on her own. She has to have her bladder expressed twice a day by a human. Lynn graciously showed me how to do this and it is really no big deal, Bubbles is not too fond of the whole process but it is over in a matter of minutes and then she is right back to getting into trouble. Bubbles is just about four months old and is a petite little girl only weighing four pounds. But let me tell you it is four pounds of pure energy. She just can’t sit still – she is always on the go.
Looking at Bubbles, you would never know there is anything wrong. She looks and acts like a typical kitten. One thing for sure is that Bubbles is not going to let a little nerve damage get in her way. She has too much living to do.
While we realize that Bubbles is not going to be an easy cat to adopt, we also realize that her life has meaning and she is worth saving. We will do whatever it takes to ensure this little girl lives a long and happy life. Besides, her foster mom has become awful fond of her and I am not sure she is going to give her back to us. We will keep you updated on Bubbles and who knows – maybe she has already found her furever home.
