Stuart discusses scholarship program
MARS HILL NEWS

The Mars Hill Rotary Club met on Tuesday, April 28, at 6:30 a.m. at the Aroostook Health Center. The special speaker was Bob Stuart with Maine College Circle Student Initiative.
Believing that our future starts at home — not in Washington, D.C. — the scholarships presented to various students will help build a better future for local communities, said Stuart. Higher education includes both colleges and trade schools, and the initiative hopes to encourage students to accept that they can go on to school somewhere and to open their eyes to the possibilities that exist for their futures.
Each student in grades 3-6 works on an essay about what they believe they want to be and/or do in the future. They work over a three-week period to research schools and occupations, do a rough draft and then a final draft to present to a panel of adults for consideration. They are judged on content, effort, spelling and more. There were 92 essays written this year at Fort Street Elementary School, with approximately a third chosen to receive scholarships.
The scholarships are funded by various companies and individuals.
