Two automotive technology students from the Caribou Regional Technology Center are headed for New Hampshire this weekend to compete in the 66th annual Ford/AAA Student Auto Skills Challenge.
Noah Cavender and Scott McCrossin will represent Maine as one of the state’s top 10 teams at the event. Their instructor is Kevin Keaton.
Sixty two high school students across northern New England will compete Saturday at the State Hands-On Competition, held at the New England Dragway in Epping, N.H.
Teams will race against the clock to correctly diagnose and repair a deliberately “bugged” 2015 Ford Fiesta SE. After diagnosing and repairing the vehicle, teammates must drive their Ford across the finish line, where their accuracy and workmanship will be judged.
Top teams from each state will advance to the national finals at Ford World Headquarters in Dearborn, Mich., June 7-9. At the national finals, champions from each state will vie for millions of dollars in scholarships, automotive equipment and a trip to the Wood Brothers Racing facility, where the students and instructor will work on race cars and learn from top automotive engineers.
Each team earned a spot in the state finals by achieving one of the state’s top scores in the preliminary online exam in January.
