Olivia Hopkins, the daughter of Matthew and Chelsea Hopkins, is a kindergarten student at Easton Elementary School. She is a kind and hardworking young lady who is a very good friend to her classmates. Olivia sets a great example and always gives her best effort with a smile on her face.
Hannah Croteau, the daughter of Matthew and Shannon Beaulier and Patrick Croteau, is a 5th grader at Easton Elementary. She is a wonderful citizen and can be counted on to make good choices and work hard. Hannah is a good friend and looks for opportunities to spread kindness to those around her.
Congratulations to both of the Students of the Quarter on a job well done!
Pageant winners
On Saturday, April 25, the Easton Community Fund-raising Pageant took place at Easton High School, entitled “High School Musical.”
The awards were as follows: second runner-up for Little Miss Easton is Julianah Willett, who performed a dance number to “Shake it Off.” First runner-up for Little Miss Easton is Ashton Embelton, who sang and danced to “Nothing But a Hound Dog.” Little Miss Easton 2015 is Chloe Lento, who performed a monologue.
First runner-up for Pre-Teen Miss Easton was Alysa Lamoreau; her talent was a song selection with cups. Pre-Teen Miss Easton 2015 is Makenzie Kinney, who did a hula hoop/dance number.
First runner-up for Miss Easton is Brittany Willett, who sang for her talent. Miss Easton 2015 is Madison Shaw, whose talent was a piano number. Julianah got both High Ticket Sales and Miss Congeniality.
Amelia Bate, Little Miss Easton 2014, received the “She’s got heart” award for the queen with the highest community service hours.
Congratulations to all the winners and great appreciation for those who put countless hours into making the pageant possible.
School registration
Attention all parents of 4- and 5-year-olds. Easton School Department is now accepting registration for children entering kindergarten or Pre-K in the fall of 2015. All children residing within the Easton school district who are 5 years old on or before Oct. 15 are eligible for enrollment in the kindergarten class. All children residing within the Easton school district who are 4 years old on or before Oct. 15 are eligible for the Pre-K class. Please call the Easton Elementary School at 488-7700 as soon as possible to register your child for either of the above classes. The classroom teacher will notify parents/guardians when an informational meeting for parents is scheduled. The following documents are required by the state of Maine: proof of immunizations, birth certificate (hospital copies are not acceptable), and proof of residency (rental agreement, utility bill, etc). These documents must be presented prior to the child beginning school. A parent meeting will be held on Thursday, May 14, at 6 p.m. at the elementary school.
Sesquicentennial activities
Throughout the entire year the Sesquicentennial Committee will be offering a different event(s) each month.
On Friday, May 22, Easton history comes alive with a production in period dress by the high school students at local cemeteries. Transportation will be provided around town and buggy rides will be offered at the cemeteries.
The elementary school play titled, “Story of Our Town” will be performed on Friday, May 29, at 6:30 p.m. in the high school gym. The show will include some factual information about town mixed with some and fun surprises.
The committee is currently selling the following items to commemorate Easton’s year-long 150th celebration: 20-ounce glass with Bears and Sesquicentennial logos for $8, glass coffee mugs with Bears and Sesquicentennial logo, royal blue T-shirt with Sesquicentennial logo for $8, royal blue hoodie sweatshirts with Sesquicentennial logo for $25 and two-tone caps or standard caps with Easton Bears logo or Sesquicentennial logo for a price of $10. First annual Bear Brunch
On Monday, June 1, Easton seniors are invited to a Bear Brunch put on by Easton Elementary School’s 2nd graders. The students will read “And Here’s to You!” by David Elliot and “I Can Be Anything” by Jerry Spinelli. Senior citizens will receive favors for attending and brunch (fruit, muffins, coffee and juice) will be served free of charge. The children have been working very hard on manners and teamwork; make plans to let them share their progress with you!
Alumni Association
The annual Alumni Banquet will be held Thursday, June 11, at 6 p.m. in the Easton Elementary cafeteria honoring the classes of 1965 and 1990 on their 50th and 25th anniversaries, and welcoming the Class of 2015. The menu: teriyaki or barbecue chicken, mixed vegetables and mashed potatoes. Alumni are encouraged to bring a salad or dessert.
All-School Reunion
The 2015 All-School Reunion is scheduled for Friday, July 10. There will be a social time at Easton High School from 2-4 p.m. Come and enjoy time exploring the building and visiting with old friends from near and far. Refreshments will be served.
The All-School Reunion Dinner will take place at Easton Elementary School at 6 p.m., with great food, friends and entertainment. There will also be many door prizes with local flair!
Science Center fundraiser
The Francis Malcolm Science Institute is excited to team up with Pampered Chef for another fundraiser this year! They are asking for your help for another successful one. Here is how you can help: On Wednesday, May 6, at 7 p.m. they are hosting a virtual live event on Facebook. That means you can sit home in your comfy sweat pants with a beverage of choice and join organizers online at the event at 7 p.m. For one hour a consultant will post recipes, videos of products and even games to make it fun and interactive. Open House
On Saturday, May 30, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Francis Malcolm Institute invites all to an open house for experiences in science, nature and astronomy. Activities will include: planetarium presentations, ocean touch tank demonstrations (sponsored by the University of Maine), model rocket launches (weather permitting), and hands-on science activities. Light refreshments will be served.

Francis Malcolm Institute
Larry Berz from FMI invites you to join him at the Frost Memorial Library for a special visit from children’s author Fran Hodgkins. She’ll be telling about her book, “The Secret Galaxy,” which is all about our galaxy, the Milky Way. There will also be astronomy activities and snacks, and you can learn how to use a telescope. The Easton Elementary School PTO is still collecting BoxTops for Education.
Kiwanis meetings
The Kiwanis Club of Easton meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month from 6-7 p.m. at the Odd Fellows Hall; everyone is welcome to attend. Dinner provided for a small fee. Please plan to join them.
Rec updates
Easton Rec will go to the 3 p.m. show of the Shriners’ Circus. The bus will depart from the elementary school at 2 p.m. The Recreation Department will be covering the cost of tickets but spending money is recommended for snacks and souvenirs on the day of the event. Green recreation shirts are required. If any parents are able to join us, it would be greatly appreciated! Open to grades one and up, younger children may attend with an adult.
Co-ed softball registrations are now being accepted. For the last several years Easton Rec has offered an adult co-ed softball league. We currently need to know who plans on entering a team for the upcoming season. Limited number of spaces for teams; first come, first serve. Events for senior citizens
Monday, May 11, will be Pamper Day. This is sure to be a special treat — our 10th annual event. Come relax and enjoy! Lunch will be served. There will be chair massages, a hand wax dip, foot baths and more! We will have special guests you’ll want to see. The event begins at 11:15 a.m. and is free!
On Friday, May 15, there will be a field trip to Rosella’s Restaurant, and Armstrong Farms in Fort Fairfield. They have a lot of unique things at the shop — things you won’t see anywhere else in The County. They sell framed photographs, jewelry, scarves, locally-made pottery, art deco plates, and lots and lots of gift items. By that time they should also have grape vines, fruit trees, asparagus, strawberry plants, blueberry and raspberry bushes on the lot for sale. They will provided refreshments. The group will have a bus tour of the farm and point out the vineyard and orchard on the Currier Road. Departing the Manor at 11:10 a.m. Participants responsible for their own lunch!

Friday, May 8 — Junior Activities from 9:30-11 a.m. at the Hall. Game Day at the Manor at 11:15 a.m.; please bring a bag lunch. Field trip to the Shrine Circus, departing from elementary school at 2 p.m.
