The high school softball season is going strong and recaps from last week’s games are as follows:
CAHS 12, East Grand/GHCA 6 — Last Thursday in Danforth, a second-inning grand slam by Karli Levesque set the tone for the Lady Panthers’ win. Pitcher Jordan Canney had three strikeouts and gave up six runs over seven innings.
Jennah Carver led EG/GHCA, as she went 2-of-4 from the plate with a two-run double. Sarah Stoddard also cranked a two-run double.
Ashland 13, Hodgdon 1 — On Friday in Hodgdon, Ashland’s Marissa Chasse threw a five-inning one-hitter, while Caitlin Paradis went 5-for-5 from the plate with a double and two RBIs. Cassidy Pelletier doubled and singled to drive in two runs.
For Hodgdon, Hannah Sherman singled and drove in a run.
Mattanawcook Academy 15, Houlton 0 — On Monday, walks plagued the Lady Shires once again, as the Lynx capitalized on 15 walks and five errors to shut out Houlton.
Courtney McIntyre struck out eight Houlton batters, while Lauren Page homered and Cheyenne Libby and Holly McLaughlin each collected two hits.
For Houlton, Tyra Gentle tripled and singled.
Caribou 14, Houlton 4 — Last Wednesday in their home opener, the Vikings took advantage of 20 walks to take the win. Rachel Soucy and Katie Pelletier each doubled.
For Houlton, Makayla McGuire had two hits, while Aspen Flewelling, Gentle and Elizabeth Ward each recorded a hit.
Schenck 12, Katahdin 11 — On Monday, the Katahdin girls had forged an 8-0 lead over two innings, but according to their coach, Harry Doughty, “We hit a slump and Schenck rallied and after a grueling battle, they won the game.”
Doughty noted one of the more spectacular defensive plays for Katahdin was when third baseman Georgia Landry scooped a hard hit grounder, tagged her base and threw to second to complete the bases-loaded double play to end the sixth.
Katahdin 17, Hodgdon 13 — Last Thursday, the Lady Cougars held a 14-0 lead, with the Hodgdon girls scoring eight runs in the third. But, Katahdin held Hodgdon off to earn the win.
Rachel Harmon tripled, doubled and singled to drive in five runs for Hodgdon.
Hodgdon 20, SACS 4 — On Monday, the Lady Hawks raced by host Southern Aroostook behind Harmon, who hit for the cycle — home run, triple, double and single — to bring in six runs, while Tianna McEwen hit a homer and triple and Sidney Crane homered.
Katahdin 10, SACS 3 — On Saturday in Dyer Brook, Doughty said, “We had a great fourth inning, scoring six runs. The infield was on fire.”
The Lady Warriors scored one run in the third and two more in the sixth.
