CARIBOU — The Aroostook Partnership for Progress (APP) has announced two new investors in the partnership.
Green Line Devco LLC, a company looking to build a transmission line called the Maine Green Line from northern Maine to eastern Massachusetts, joined in the first quarter of 2015. The most recent investors are the Star City, Hillside and Mars Hill IGAs.
“APP has a broad range of investors, which total more than 25 businesses and educational institutions,” said APP President Bob Dorsey. “All of our partners, whether public or private, are motivated to grow the northern Maine economy. We are very grateful that they are not only investing but also sharing their knowledge and in many cases their valuable time and talent as well.”
Scott Carlin, owner of the IGA supermarkets in three Aroostook communities, has been a strong supporter of The County. He and his wife, Rena, have also been honored by the Independent Grocers Alliance twice in the past four years.
Dorsey added, “The APP focus going forward is to get additional medium and smaller businesses engaged. They bring a key perspective to economic growth as they often face different challenges than larger businesses. And it is especially important to have the retailer perspective as we are very aware that the retail business is changing.”
The Maine Green Line is a transmission solution proposed by the Green Line Devco, LLC, as a project of the Green Line Infrastructure Alliance. Maine Green Line will move 1000 megawatts of power from Maine to eastern Massachusetts. Its goals are to encourage the development of renewable resources in northern New England by providing infrastructure to bring “green” power to more densely populated areas to the south, including Boston, while at the same time increasing the supply of reliable energy into the largest demand center in New England.
The Aroostook Partnership for Progress is a public-private partnership dedicated to aggressive and effective results-oriented economic development actions that leverage the financial commitments and talents of the private sector in close partnership with the public sector.
