Largest grange in the world — One of the busiest places that the Times representative has seen this season is the Grange store where A. A. Stewart and his crew are kept on the jump providing members of the largest grange in the world with supplies.
Of local interest — Mr. Samuel Rhoda of Hodgdon has purchased a new Buick auto. H. B. Stimson of Houlton was in town (Linneus) surveying land for several farmers. Market Square was a busy place Saturday night; at 8 o’clock as 20 autos were counted standing while 10 were in motion.
75 Years Ago – May 16, 1940

County war relief — An opportunity for Southern Aroostook residents to aid in bringing some measure of relief to the war-torn European people was announced today by the local chapter of the American Red Cross. The local chapter quota goal is $2,000.
Perkins: Talented Littleton girl — Littleton has many talented youngsters, but ten-year-old Peggy Perkins seems to be outstanding when it comes to singing. She has sung in Monticello Grange Hall, Ricker Classical Institute and before several Houlton clubs.
50 Years Ago – May 13, 1965

Wrong side of the lake — At East Grand Lake on Sunday, Canadian forest wardens confiscated the fishing gear of about 20 American citizens after the group was found fishing on the Canadian side of the lake. The Americans had to purchase Canadian licenses at $7.50 each to regain their gear.

LaVerdiere’s opens in Houlton — LaVerdiere’s is welcoming the public to a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Houlton LaVerdiere’s Super Drug Store on Thursday at 9 a.m. LaVerdiere’s management team is store manager Douglas Cameron and assistant manager Greg London.
Birmingham joins Guard — John Russell Birmingham, 17-year-old senior at Katahdin High School joined the Maine Army National Guard last summer, and after basic training, is applying for an additional one-year nursing course to certify him as a licensed practical nurse.
