DICKEY, Dana H., 84, AMHERST, MA & MAINE, at Mass. January 4, 2015. In July 2015, ashes will be scattered at East Grand Lake in Weston, ME, at a private gathering.
AMHERST, MA & MAINE – Dana H. Dickey, 84 years old, son of Lester and Elsie Dickey, died at home on January 4, 2015, of complications following heart surgery.
He is survived by his wife, Emy Dickey; three daughters, Laurel Dickey of Amherst, MA, Heather Dickey of Marlboro, MA, and Holly Dickey of Georgetown, MA; and three grandchildren.
Dana was born in Easton. He graduated from Presque Isle High School in 1948.
He attended the University of Maine at Orono and graduated in 1952, with High Distinctions, attaining a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Engineering Physics. His academic excellence qualified him for membership in the Phi Kappa Phi Society and the Tau Beta Pi Society.
In 1957, Dana completed a Doctorate of Philosophy in Physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was awarded membership into the Society of Sigma Xi, based on research achievements or potential, in 1954 while working on his doctorate.
While living with his family in Lincoln, Mass., Dana spent his career working as a research physicist at MIT Lincoln Labs in Lexington.
Upon retirement, Dana and Emy relocated to western Massachusetts. They enjoyed spending time with family, both in Amherst and at their summer home in Maine, and Dana continued his life-long avocation of designing and building.
In July 2015, ashes will be scattered at East Grand Lake in Weston, ME, at a private gathering.
