Editor’s note: The following article is a synopsis written by staff members and volunteers of the Cary Public Library highlighting one of the suggested reading books, as determined by their staff.
“It’s Only Stanley” by Jon Agee has a darling beagle doing things only you could imagine! But he only works on his projects late, late at night. Now, do you like being waked up from a sound sleep by strange noises?
This family does not like the noises or smell of catfish stew, and are very forgiving of Stanley’s projects because after all, he has unplugged the bathtub drain, fixed the oil tank, and repaired the TV. Stanley has saved the biggest project for last and what a surprise it is! You’ll love it!
The pictures are simply drawn, but complicated in their details; boys will likely be interested in those images, as well as the sheer messiness involved. An added bonus are the “noise words” such as water splashing and Stanley’s singing. Downright fun book to read aloud. One more new book Cary has obtained for the Children’s collection. Enjoy!
