HOULTON, Maine — A Memorial Day celebration will be held in Houlton Monday, starting at 9:15 a.m. with a wreath laying ceremony and prayer.

A parade will then form at the TD Bank parking lot at about 10:30 a.m. and will make a brief stop at the North Street bridge for a ceremonial tossing of the wreath into the Meduxnekeag River and prayer.
At that time, the Maine State Select honor Guard will be firing a 75mm Pack Howitzer cannon off the Gateway Crossing Bridge. Residents are advised this canon, made popular during World War II, will produce a very loud boom.
The parade will then continue through downtown Houlton, ending at Monument Park for a ceremony at 11 a.m.
That ceremony will feature laying of wreaths at the monuments, the playing of TAPS, a gun salute, helicopter fly over and playing of songs by the Houlton High School band.
