The Mapleton Lions Club will host a special Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony Monday, May 25. The special ceremony will involve the rededication of the Mapleton-Chapman-Castle Hill Veterans Memorial Monument located at Mapleton Elementary School.

This year, the Club is adding two new stones to the monument. These new stones will list all of the names of veterans who served during the times of war. Unfortunately, some names from earlier wars were missed when the original stones were created. Also there have been additional wars since Vietnam.
The Club, under the leadership of Lions Ron Leonard and Jon Frederick, has searched for the names of those who served and should be added to the monument. After confirming the eligibility of the names submitted and/or found, Leonard and Frederick worked with the original designer and creator of the current monument to plan for additional stones to be added. The Club commissioned the work order for the additional stones and names. The new stones are to be in place by this Memorial Day for the rededication of the monument in the memory of those who served.
While the Club believes the listings on the stone are complete, there is the possibility someone has been missed. Names may be submitted to Leonard or Frederick at any time. The criteria for inclusion on the monument are to have been a resident of one of the three towns at the time of enlistment and to have served during times of war. The Mapleton Lions Club considers the recognition of these veterans an honor for the towns and the Club.
Prior to the Remembrance Ceremony, the annual Mapleton Lions Club Memorial Day Parade will be held. The parade is open to all who would like to march. Lineup for the parade will begin at 1 p.m. on the Dudley Road. The parade will step off at 2 p.m. and proceed down Main Street to the Mapleton Elementary School. The Remembrance Ceremony will begin 15 minutes after the ending of the parade. Everyone is invited to view the parade and attend the special Remembrance Ceremony.
