East Grand inducts students

DANFORTH, Maine — On April 2, the East Grand High School inducted four new members for its National Honor Society. Induction to the NHS is a privilege, not a right gained solely by academic excellence.  Students filled out a multi-page document, regarding their leadership and service commitments and then responded to an interview designed to acquaint the faculty council with their characters and aspirations.  While many are academically eligible, the council gets to know a great deal about those who take the time and effort to meet the other standards.

The four new members of the EGHS NHS chapter are senior, Liz Hood from Weston; junior Andrew Mailman from Danforth, sophomore Hannah Crone from Danforth; and Paige Young, another sophomore also from Danforth.
During the ceremony, the new members were presented with scarves by current member Candice Mailman, their certificates and membership cards by principal Dawn Matthews, and their pins by advisor Marilyn Burton.  In a couple of cases, the new members were presented their pins by family members who were or are members of the East Grand Chapter.
Representing the chapter in the induction were current members and seniors Allison McEwen, Chelsea Winiarski, Candice Mailman, Lauren Morse and junior Kimberly Stoddard.
