Reflections on achievements

It has been a busy and productive year for the Hodgdon Chapter of the National Honor Society. Traditional events took place, such as hosting and volunteering at a blood drive for the Red Cross, working freshman orientation, setting up for school functions, sponsoring student leadership appreciation week, teacher appreciation week, and donating to the state of Maine NHS yearly cause.

This year, the charity was Stop Hunger Now. Along with the events that have become customary, Hodgdon NHS has brought in some new efforts to give back to the school and community. Among these were a tutoring/mentoring program to fellow students, and heading up Heidi’s Hope in Hodgdon, a volunteer effort sponsored by the Aroostook Aspirations Initiative Gauvin Fund.
During Heidi’s Hope, NHS students lead groups in litter cleanup, local tree farm assistance, cemetery organization, and putting in wood for families in need.
Additionally Hodgdon National Honor Society hosted the spring northern regional convention for all NHS chapters in Aroostook county, volunteered at a benefit supper for a scholarship in Makenna Ward’s honor, and spent its second year volunteering at the Special Olympics in Presque Isle.
Countless hours were spent helping out in the community, giving members one of the most rewarding years yet.
