Southern Aroostook Community School of Dyer Brook recently held their National Honor Society Induction ceremony. Family, friends, faculty and community members all gathered in the school multi- purpose room to watch as eight new and six current members shared a ceremony during which their commitment to the NHS standards and member expectations were pledged.
Newest members inducted during the April 28 ceremony were, Dakota Dickinson, Mariah Lane, Lily Leavitt, Ayanna Morales, Joshua Perrin, Kaitlin Small, Lucas Violette and Casey Stairs. Returning members are Kylie Dunphy, Shanna Porter, Matthew Tarr, Cass Lyons, Parker Walker, Cameron Landry and Jess Nye.
The past school year has seen numerous activities and opportunities for NHS members to develop in all four pillars; scholarship, leadership, character and service. Members have volunteered for the local food pantry, clothing drive, Toys for Tots program, as well as attended the fall and spring regional NHS conventions.
Upcoming events for the remaining school year include hosting the school’s Honors Dinner and a community clean-up event. When asked, NHS member Kylie Dunphy said, “This was a busy year, but was worth it.”
