CARIBOU — A local recycling facility is participating in a fundraiser to help grant wishes for Maine children.
AIM Recycling LLC is currently holding a fundraising event for Maine kids by donating $1 to Make-A-Wish Maine for every ton of metal they receive at all five locations throughout the state. Caribou’s AIM Recycling USA is located at 208 Limestone St.
Collections are taking place until July, providing local communities more than three months to partake in raising a goal of $60,000 to help grant wishes in Maine.
“This is a great opportunity for the community to become involved in Make-A-Wish’s cause by recycling any scrap metal, and we couldn’t be more thankful to AIM Recycling for holding this fundraiser,” said Sonya Purrington, director of marketing at Make-A-Wish Maine. “AIM Recycling is offering people the chance to bring hope, strength, and joy to Maine kids, and if they hit their goal, their donation can grant wishes to 10 Maine kids.”
Since 1936, the company has offered individuals and businesses an environmentally friendly way to recycle unwanted metal. Officials said AIM is committed to reprocessing received items into raw metals through eco-friendly methods.
Items that can be accepted include household appliances, piping and wiring, vehicles (with title and no tires), snowplows, snowmobiles and much more. For questions regarding what materials may be accepted, call AIM’s local facility at 498-8132.
Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. This coming year, the organization expects to grant the greatest wish of over 70 seriously ill Maine children, which is an average of one wish every five days. All money raised in Maine stays in Maine. All wish expenses are fully covered by Make-A-Wish.
