PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Calling all taste buds, the Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce is now taking orders for their annual strawberry shortcake sale, scheduled for Thursday, June 25.
“There’s no better way to kick off the start of summer than sinking your teeth into some juicy strawberries, whipped cream and fluffy biscuits. Get ready, because it’s time for our annual Strawberry Shortcake Day,” said Theresa Fowler, executive director of the Chamber.

These scrumptious desserts will be for sale, in advance or at the event, for $3.50 each. Proceeds go toward the chamber operating expenses.
“To place your orders, complete one of our forms which is available on our website at www.centralaroostookchamber.com, and return to us by Friday, June 12. You can also come by the North Street Plaza between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and pick up your tasty summer treat in person,” said Fowler.
Can’t get away from the office? If your business is located in Presque Isle, Easton, Mars Hill, Mapleton, Caribou or Fort Fairfield, Fowler said volunteers will be available for deliveries.
“With an order of 10 or more tasty shortcakes, we’ll deliver them to your business between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on June 25,” said Fowler.

Free fishing on state
waters this weekend

AUGUSTA, Maine — The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is encouraging everyone to get out on Maine’s waters this weekend to take advantage of free fishing days.
Free fishing weekend will take place on Saturday, May 30, and Sunday, May 31, when any person may fish for free without a license on Maine’s waterways, except those who have had their license suspended or revoked.
All other rules and regulations, including bag and possession limits, apply.
“Maine is proud to be home to more than 90 percent of the wild brook trout found in lakes and ponds and also boasts exceptional landlocked salmon, brown and rainbow trout, smallmouth bass, and plenty of other fish species that are great for children,” said Chandler Woodcock, IFW commissioner.
The Department stocks more than 1 million fish each year and manages more than 20 species of freshwater game fish.
“Fishing always provides great memories, especially when you help a child experience the joys of fishing for the first time,” said Governor Paul R. LePage. “Free fishing weekend is the perfect time for people of all ages to try their hand at fishing and see why the sport is such a beloved Maine tradition.”
