Aroostook River Voices to perform benefit concert

The Aroostook River Voices, a community chorus from Ashland, will perform a benefit concert Saturday, May 30, 2015 at 7 p.m. at the Caribou Performing Arts Center.
The concert will benefit the Caribou Veterans of Foreign Wars, which is in need of some additional funding to do some improvements at the veterans memorial near the Nylander Museum. Donations will be accepted.
The chorus began performances in 2010 and is known to be unique in their performance style. They have as many as seven different conductors, and the audience can expect to hear as many as 20 different soloists. Instrumental accompaniment is an integral part of each selection.
The audience can expect a wide variety of song styles to include pop, rock, folk, gospel, classical, jazz and country. This special performance will be their 15th concert to date. All are invited to come and hear one the largest choral groups in the state of Maine.
Ashland Summer Food Service Program
The Ashland District School is participating in the USDA Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be provided to all children without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability.
Meals will be provided at the Ashland District School cafeteria. Meals will be served Monday through Friday from June 29-Aug. 28. Breakfast will be served from 8:15-9 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m.-noon.
Ongoing events
The Portage Lake ATV Club will meet every first Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the Town Office. All are welcome to attend. Contact Rena Belanger for membership or more information at 435-2780.
The Ashland Area Senior Citizens meet the first and third Thursday at noon for a potluck luncheon at the LeBlanc Junkins VFW Post 9699 on the Portage Road with a meeting to follow. This active and growing club of senior citizens also takes trips to various restaurants throughout The County, hosts cookouts, enjoys guest speakers and entertainment such as musicians. The Portage Lake Over 50’s Club lunch is held on the last Tuesday of every month at 11:30 a.m. at the Town Hall. All individuals 50 and over are invited to attend and can bring a potluck dish to share. For more information, contact Jean Clark at 435-8034 or Donna Martin at 435-7108.
The Red Hat Loonies of Portage Lake meet every third Thursday of every month at Dean’s Motor Lodge. Membership dues are $2. Come and have a great meal and a great time, too!
