The sugar plantation workers have very little but what they do have, they appreciate and are proud to share and show others. Keegan’s speech and slides showed the poverty of the area where the volunteers worked to install water filtration systems. Amy also spoke about her experience and about the hunger facing the workers every day.
Amy appealed to the audience that any small gift is extremely appreciated.
Vice President Jane Torres presented the High School Volunteer Award to the 2015 winner Houlton High School. Last June, in a driving rainstorm the high school students persevered in their volunteer activities in spite of the rain. This year’s date will be Friday May 29, if anyone in the area needs volunteer crews please contact Houlton High School at 532-6551.
And last but not least, a hand of applause went to Madigan Estates for the wonderful homemade spaghetti sauce and to the set up committees and the Rotary kitchen crew managing the garlic bread and spaghetti to feed twelve tables set for twenty people each and no empty chairs!
