HOULTON — On June 1 and after 46 years in banking, Brenda Richards of Houlton will be starting a new chapter in her life called “retirement.”
Richards has spent the last 36 years of her career at Bangor Savings Bank and leaves with a number of accomplishments.

A community barbecue in her honor will be held Friday, May 29, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and an open house is also slated from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Richards started with the bank as a teller and worked her way to management, where she has spent her time as the assistant manager of the Houlton office, managing the day-to-day operations. She was the first senior teller in the Bangor Savings Bank branch system. This title didn’t come easy, as it required a number of AIB classes, testing and a personal interview with a bank executive.
Recently she earned the title of AVP, the branch’s customer service champion, and last year was the recipient of an IMPACT Award.
“She leaves a legacy with all of us,” said bank officials, “as she was part of the original motivation team that developed the meaning of the acronym IMPACT.”
Richards has touched a number of lives, including her bank family, who will miss her very much, as well as the many customers she has taken care of over the years.
She is cited as “an amazing individual, who always has a smile, is a second mother to many and rarely says, ‘This can’t be done,’ but more often, ‘How can we make it work?’”
In her retirement, Richards plans on enjoying time in her new home with her two daughters, Susan and Margaret Anne, and her three cats, Kitty, Joe and Jake. She also plans to do some camping, fishing and helping her church family and others in her community.
