I have a wide variety of interests. I write a baseball blog and write for another site about the New York Yankees. I study local history and pore over everything I can find on genealogy. I also am a photographer. While I am not a Paul Cyr (who is!?), I enjoy the positive feedback I get on my artist website. Needless to say, on my free time, I spend a lot of time driving around the area. When you drive around our home area, do you “see” what you are looking at?
What I mean is this: When part of who you are is taking pictures, then it forces you to “see” what is around you because you are always looking for unique shots and interesting things to shoot. As such, I have been “forced” to actually see this grand area and the beauty it contains.
And what a great time of year to see! The lilacs and apple trees are in bloom. Forget-me-nots are springing up along driveways and wooded areas. Ducks and geese decorate our ponds and their babies are being hatched. Eagles are circling our skies and marsh hawks our fields. Everything is rich greens of stunning variety.
I have taken photos of beavers, hedgehogs, deer, moose, wild turkey, hawks and more. It doesn’t matter the season, there is always something fascinating and beautiful to see with our eyes.
And that is a problem because often we don’t see it. We are so busy with our tasks and where we have to be in five, 10, 15 or 30 minutes that we just drive on straight ahead for miles without knowing where we have even been. I’m no different. I have just been fortunate enough to have taken up photography to really see and understand how blessed we are to live where we live.
Look! You’ll see it. You will.
Thursdays on Sweden begins again this week and how exciting is that!? Tomorrow will feature one of the best bands around with French Toast. The weather looks like it will be perfect and I cannot wait!
The Chamber has decided to become more active at these events and we are doing two things not only as a fund raiser as our budget is very tight, but also provides you a little something more to feel good about where you live.
First, we will have two sizes of some keepsake value. The larger one has the Caribou, Maine logo printed on it and the other has the Thursdays on Sweden logo. We will be selling the cups full of Houlton Farms Dairy Lemonade. Yes, we have invented Thirstdays on Sweden.
Secondly, we will have two souvenir items for sale and judging by pre-sales, you are going to like them. The first is a keychain with a Caribou, Maine logo. We will sell those for $8. And we are nearly sold out of those before we even get to Thursday! We are also selling a beautiful bracelet for $20. The bracelet contains a Caribou, Maine logo and “charm,” a potato barrel charm and a heart charm. Those have also sold well and we have already recouped our outlay.
