MASARDIS, Maine — An Ashland woman sustained non-life-threatening injuries Wednesday, May 27, when her vehicle struck a tractor-trailer truck head-on as they traveled along Route 11.

“At approximately 8:41 p.m. on May 27, Robert A. Leathers, 38, of Medway, called 9-1-1 reporting a head-on collision between his tractor trailer and a passenger car on state Route 11 in Masardis,” said Sgt. Brian Harris, of the Maine State Police.
Troopers Carman Lilley and Adam Stoutamyer responded to the scene.
“Carla L. Bragdon, 53, of Ashland, was driving a 2000 Toyota Corolla southbound on Route 11 and Leathers was driving his truck north. As they met, Bragdon crossed the center line and went into the northbound lane, into the path of Leathers’ vehicle,” said Harris.
According to Harris, Leathers tried braking to avoid the crash but the two vehicles collided head-on. Ashland Ambulance and Masardis Fire Department responded to the scene and extricated Bragdon from her vehicle. Bragdon was then transported to The Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle.
“It is unknown at this time why Bragdon crossed the center line prior to the crash but alcohol is considered to be a factor in the crash. Bragdon, who was not wearing a seatbelt, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Leathers was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured in the crash,” said Harris.
Trooper Robert Flynn, with the Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit, also responded to the scene to assist in the investigation, which is ongoing at this time. Other agencies assisting at the scene included the Ashland Police Department and Maine DOT.
Charges are possible, based on the findings of the investigation. Bragdon’s Toyota was considered totaled. Leathers’ 1998 Peterbilt sustained front-end damage.
