BRIDGEWATER, Maine — Firefighters saved a Snow Road home, following a lightning struck that caused a fire that destroyed a nearby barn.
“Crews from the Bridgewater and Monticello fire departments responded to a barn fire at 8:05 p.m. Wednesday, that started from a lightning strike. The initial report stated that a barn was on fire at 222 Snow Rd. in Bridgewater,” said Matthew Powers, training officer and spokesperson for the Bridgewater Fire Department.
Firefighters had to work fast to prevent the fire from spreading to the home.
“After learning that the blaze was close to a residence, dispatchers from the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office were able to update fire crews while they were en route. Firefighters with the BFD arrived on scene to a fully-engulfed barn, with flames threatening the house on its southern exposure,” said Powers.
Powers said crews “knocked down the flames quickly and were able to prevent the fire from causing damage to the house.”
“The LaFrancois family lost the contents and the barn, which was insured,” said Powers.
