A thunderstorm early Wednesday evening was blamed for causing a power outage that left over 1,000 customers without service northwest of Presque Isle.

“About 1,740 customers lost power May 27 around 6:22 p.m. as a result of the storm. Emera crews were dispatched to restore electricity, following the strong thunderstorms that moved through northern Maine,” said Bob Potts, spokesperson for Emera Maine.
Potts said communities affected included: Oxbow, Eagle Lake, New Canada, Wallagrass Plantation, Perham, Woodland, Stockholm, Westmanland and surrounding areas.
“Workers remained in the field restoring power until all customers’ service was restored,” said Potts.
Potts did not indicate what caused the power outage. Service was restored  for most areas around 11:30 p.m.  on May 27. Oxbow’s power was restored around noon on May 28.
Emera Maine encourages customers to stay clear of downed power lines and trees in contact with power lines. Customers may report outages or ask questions by calling Emera’s Customer Service Center at 973-2020 or 1-855-EMERA11 (1-855-363-7211).
