PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Immediately prior to the May 20 district-wide budget meeting, SAD 1 directors filled three positions during their regularly monthly board meeting.

Alice Molloy has been appointed as a sixth-grade English/social studies teacher at Presque Isle Middle School, while Beth Boone will teach eighth-grade English/social studies at PIMS. Hallie Bartlett has been hired as a third-grade teacher at Zippel Elementary School.
Superintendent Gehrig Johnson said there are still several positions that remain open including a special education director for SAD 1, facilities manager at PIMS, computer teacher at Zippel, and English and special education teachers at Presque Isle High School.
Johnson said he expects to fill those positions at the June 10 meeting.
Also during the May meeting, Johnson informed the board that he and PIHS Principal Ben Greenlaw recently returned from China.
“We had a very productive trip. We spent four days at the International School in Nanning,” said Johnson. “We have received our first payment from the school. That’s $12,500 that’s coming into SAD 1, which is $400 per student. That should double next year and they’re already recruiting the next class.”
Johnson and Greenlaw will go back to China in September during SAD 1’s potato harvest.
The next regular SAD 1 board meeting will be Wednesday, June 10 at 5:30 p.m. in the board conference room at PIHS.
