So as most of you know, we have puppies! We have seven babies we have been bottle feeding and now they are finally eating on their own. It has been three long weeks of poop, up all night and poop. But we wouldn’t change it for anything. They needed us and we were here.
A lady called us from a town up north saying she had seven puppies she needed out as soon as possible. We talked with her, like we always do, trying to find out the story and the details. She explained she had the parents, was getting a divorce and could not afford the puppies. She had heard we were great with puppies and that we would most likely help. The problem was, she would not give us the mom too, which meant we would have to supplement with formula. This is a lot of work. It’s like having seven babies all night long. But without hesitation, I said, yes, we will help you.
She arrived with seven little ones in a small blue tote. They were covered in feces and were so hungry. We immediately went into action. We cleaned them up and got them to start eating. They ate like little bears, feeling like they couldn’t get enough. We then talked about the night shifts and decided to split the puppies up between three employees. Two took two puppies and I took three. We got our “diaper bags” ready with formula, blankets, bowls, bottles and puppy pads. We knew we were in for a long few weeks, but it’s who we are and what we do.
We put out a plea for help with supplies, and as usual, you all came to our rescue. You dropped off hundreds of dollars in food, puppy pads and cleaners. We knew you all were behind us in this mission. We are happy to say three and a half weeks into this mission; they are getting huge and eating on their own.
We have no idea of their breed, other than cute! They love to be held and are so sweet. As much as we all love them, we know their adoption day is coming. This day is going to be exciting, going to be fun. We have decided to make it an event, a big one! We have been invited by our friends at Pleasant View Tree farm in Hodgdon to have it there. So we are announcing our “Peonies, pine trees and puppies” event on Saturday, June 20 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. We will of course have lots of adoptable animals, a bake sale and things for sale. More details to follow, as we get closer.
These seven lives could not have been saved without HHS and all of you. You, every day, help us continue to be able to do what we do. We want to thank you for allowing us to continue our mission to save lives, one at a time!
