THE 2015 GOVERNOR’S AWARD for EMS Services was presented to Dr. Peter Goth, medical director of TAMC’s emergency department and critical care transport, in Augusta as part of the kickoff to National Emergency Medical Services Week observances in Maine. Joining in the presentation were, from left: Maine DHHS Commissioner Mary Mayhew, Maine Department of Public Safety Commissioner John Morris, and Goth.
The 2014 Overall Best Performer Award is an honor presented annually by Avatar to the top facilities in their national database with the highest overall combined score for inpatient, outpatient, emergency department and ambulatory surgery services. The scores were compiled from surveys randomly sent to patients who received care at TAMC through 2014.
“This is a most meaningful award because it truly represents what our patients are saying about their experience with us,” said Dr. Jay Reynolds, chief medical officer and chief clinical officer. “Everyone in our organization; our employees, providers, and volunteers have stepped up their efforts to provide our patients with not just the best quality of care, but also the best in quality of service. The heart of any organization is its people, and it is nice to see that the efforts of our TAMC team are recognized on a national level.”
Although this is the highest honor Avatar presents to TAMC, it is not the first. The Aroostook Medical Center previously earned Exceeding Patient Expectations honors based on patient feedback in both 2012 and 2013. In 2012, TAMC also was presented with the “Blue Sail” innovation award for efforts in improving service in its emergency department and “transforming ‘blue sky’ thinking into effective action.” The medical center was presented with an Exemplary Service-Most Improved Ambulatory Surgery honor in 2011 for its efforts, as recognized by patients surveyed in that area, in the previous year.
“Our vision at TAMC is to be the best rural healthcare organization in America. As we strive each day to achieve this, we are honored to join our colleagues across Maine and the country in accepting the Overall Best Performer award,” CEO Sylvia Getman said.
