HOULTON — Katahdin Trust has hired another group of three young professionals to participate in the second year of the bank’s Summer Internship Program.

SUMMER INTERNS — The Katahdin Trust Company has selected three interns to work with the company this summer. They are, from left, Rachel Gillis, Taylor Locke and Abigail Moody.
The internship committee comprised of Katahdin Trust employees from various departments of the bank has selected three college students from a pool of applicants to participate in this year’s Summer Internship Program. The bank has welcomed the following individuals to their community bank team; Rachel Gillis of Nashville Plantation, Taylor Locke of Oakfield, and Abigail Moody of Houlton.
“Our goal is to help create high quality jobs in Aroostook County and to focus on young people as future leaders,” said Jon J. Prescott, Katahdin Trust president and CEO. “We want to show these college students that there are quality jobs right here in The County.”
Prescott explained that the program will give students a sense of professionalism that supplements their work in the classroom and show our younger population that they don’t have to leave The County to use their degree.
After a successful summer, all three interns from last year’s program are currently employed with Katahdin Trust. Riley Parady is working full-time in the Marketing Department as Marketing Coordinator. Alyson McGillicuddy and Mark Levasseur are both intermittent part-time employees. McGillicuddy works in the operations department, and Levasseur works in the retail and commercial departments.
The interns in this year’s program will be assigned to a specific department as well as a mentor for the summer. They will concentrate on several projects within their specialty area. From mid-May through the end of August they will absorb significant groundwork and instruction in the world of banking. The program is designed to give these students insight into a broad range of financial services while strengthening their core skills to launch a successful career.
Gillis will be interning in the retail lending department. She just completed her first year at Thomas College, where she is studying finance and marketing.
Locke will be interning in the commercial services department, as well as working with Maine Financial Group, a Katahdin Trust Company Affiliate. He just completed his third year at the University of Maine at Orono, where he is studying business management.
Moody will be interning in the retail services department. She just completed her first year at the University of Maine at Orono, where she is studying business management.
Gillis will be based in the Patten community, Locke will be working equally in both Houlton and Bangor, and Moody will be based in the Houlton community.
Katahdin Trust continues to support and invest in the initiative called Opportunities Aroostook, which grew out of the Aroostook Partnership for Progress (APP) “Education to Industry” initiative. Opportunities Aroostook is also promoted by Leaders Encouraging Aroostook Development (LEAD). “Katahdin Trust is honored to be a part of promoting the Education to Industry Initiative and we hope to encourage balanced development and economic growth here in Aroostook County,” said Prescott.
