Irene J. Ouellette
PALMYRA – Irene J. Ouellette, 93, died May 15, 2015, at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Bangor following a long illness. Irene was born in North Caribou, ME Dec. 14, 1921, the daughter of Maxime and Lydia (Ouellette) Blanchette.
She attended Holy Rosary Elementary School and was a graduate of Caribou High School in the class of 1941. She married Emilian Ouellette in 1942 and he predeceased her on Sept 7, 1998. Irene was employed at Edwards General Signal Co. in Pittsfield for 23 years. She was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Caribou and St. Agnes Catholic Church in Pittsfield. She enjoyed her home and working in her gardens. She spent many hours making blankets and braiding rugs for her children and grandchildren.
Irene is survived by two daughters, Shirley Adams and her companion, Royce Ludden of Palmyra, Twilda Shameklis of Loris, South Carolina; two sons, Daniel Ouellette of Vassalboro, Randy Ouellette of Maryville, Tenn; one sister, Florence Castonguay of Spring-field, Mass.; a sister-in law, Doris Blanchette of Caribou; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband; a son, Ricky Ouellette; sisters, Rose, Alice, Anna, Cecile, Edwina, and Alma; brothers, Teddy, Leziome, Onezime, Joseph, Ben, Lionel, Bob, and Roland; a son-in-law, Bruce Shameklis.
Friends called Friday, May 22 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Service Center, 34 High Street, Newport, ME. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Sat., May 23, 2015, at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Pittsfield. Burial will be at a later date in Caribou.
