WASHINGTON, D.C. — Senators Susan Collins and Angus King and Representatives Chellie Pingree and Bruce Poliquin announced last week that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will award the Bar Harbor, Danforth and Jefferson Fire Departments $345,912 as part of the Assistance to Firefighter Grant (AFG).
“As Maine experiences brush fires across the state, we must make certain that our brave firefighters have the protective equipment they need to safely and successfully combat them,” Maine’s Congressional Delegation said in joint statement. “This important investment will help to purchase breathing apparatuses and other equipment that our firefighters in Bar Harbor, Danforth, and Jefferson need to stay safe as they protect our families and communities.”
The Assistance to Firefighters Grant was created to help provide funds for fire departments and non-affiliated emergency medical service organizations so they can purchase equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources to better protect the public and emergency personnel.
