Estela Lane
HODGDON, Maine — The SAD 70 board must find a new member to take the gavel as long-time chairman Estela Lane announced Monday that she was resigning from the group.
Lane has been on the SAD 70 board for 19 years, including the past 10 years as its chairman. She received a standing ovation during the meeting, bringing tears to her eyes.
“I have really enjoyed working with and for this district,” she said. “There have been good times and not so good times … rocky times and smooth ones. I have a new grandson who is finally in Maine and I am really excited about being able to go visit. Plus, I think it’s time for some new energy and younger blood on this board. I leave you all in good hands.”
“Her decision (to resign) saddens all of us,” SAD 70 Superintendent Scott Richardson said. “Her dedication to this board has been long and hard.”
Lane, who represents Linneus, was re-elected to the board last March. Her term was not set to expire until March 2017. The seat will remain vacant until the Linneus Board of Selectmen fills it with a volunteer. That person will hold the seat until the next regular election.
