WAGM-TV news director
speaks at monthly PROBUS Club meeting
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Kelly O’Mara, the news director for WAGM-TV, was the special guest of the PROBUS Club of Aroostook May 21, 2015.
The meeting took place at Northern Maine Community College’s Reed Commons, with 17 members and two others guest in attendance.
O’Mara discussed her work background and talked about some of the activities she participates in outside of work. A native of Easton, she is a former teacher who had elementary school stints in Wytopitlock and Orono. She began doing the weather at WAGM and has co-anchored the news with Chris Weimer and now Dick Palm. O’Mara said as news director, she reviews scripts and schedules and is on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
She brought up the change of ownership at the station, which she says will open up new technology.
O’Mara is an animal lover who owns two dogs. She loves singing gospel songs and has released a compact disc of Christian music. She is active at her church, the Presque Isle Wesleyan Church.
Also during the meeting, the club sang the song “This is My Country” and Janet Snow read a short story from Echoes Magazine entitled “A Spring Ritual: Looking for the Ostrich Fern” by Bob Fields. The secretary’s and treasurer’s reports were accepted as read.
The next meeting is Thursday, June 18 at NMCC’s Reed Commons, beginning at 10 a.m.
