HOULTON — Pioneer Broadband, a local telecommunications provider, has announced its new Fiber To The Home (FTTH) Internet service is now ready to add customers in the northeast section of Houlton.
The new gigabit capable service is now available on the following streets: Bird, Broadway, Burleigh, Charles, Elm, Kelleran (between Military and Main), Main, Military (from Broadway to Willard St extension), Mechanic, Orchard, Pleasant (up to Bird intersection), Pleasant Court, Powers Ave, Prospect, Randall Ave, Randall Court, River, Summer, Water, Willard, Williams, Winter.
Pioneer Broadband started building fiber Internet service for home use over two years ago. Existing Pioneer DSL customers can get a free upgrade to the fiber service. There is also a Refer-A-Friend promotion that can earn existing customers a free month of service. The typical residential fee is $49.95 per month with a $100 installation charge.
Karter Kenney, vice president of sales, said “Fiber optic cabling has many advantages compared to the existing copper infrastructure. Fiber is fast, reliable and doesn’t suffer from electrical interference or moisture problems. Typical connection speeds are 30 megabits download and five megabits upload, but we can deliver gigabit levels to any fiber customer that has that need for speed!”
