Island Falls Notes

Susie York recently had a trip to Florida where she visited with her son, Carroll, and family, who have lived in the Orlando area now for several years. While there Carroll celebrated his birthday and was very happy that his family from Maine was there to wish him well.

I was chatting with my next-door neighbors (Cheryl and Pete Connelly) and they told me about a dead groundhog that they discovered on part of their property., and we all figured it was the same groundhog that has been having a great time digging around our homes and making such a mess. Sure hope he didn’t leave a family behind that will take up his bad habit of digging up flower gardens and lawns.
I am still seeing the small hummingbirds enjoying a meal at my feeder. I do not put out sunflower seeds now, so my other feathered friends are few and far between, but it also keeps the squirrels away. I saw a gray one the other day and he was checking out the bird feeders, but didn’t linger too long.
Also, I was lucky to be looking out my big window about a week ago, and way down back next to the woods were two deer, and as I kept watching, two more came out of the woods. They all continued to graze down there for about 15 minutes, and then they all headed back into the woods. No fawns were there and I wonder if they will show up sometime this summer.
