100 Years Ago- June 23, 1915

Frisbie Block sold — One half and undivided of the Frisbie block in Market Square was sold on Wednesday last by Geo. A. Gorham, Executor of the estate of Clara P. Frisbie, to John S. Weiler for $40,150.

Davis is new sub-master — William F. Davis, Jr., son of Rev. and Mrs. W. F. Davis, has accepted a position as sub master of Houlton High School. His is a Phi Beta Kappa man and graduate from Wesleyan.

Camping out — Community Park donned the aspect of a campground Friday and Saturday as nearly 500 Boy Scouts from 23 communities attended the annual camporee and meeting of Katahdin Council, Boy Scouts of America.

Nason is oldest resident — D. A. Nason celebrated his 89th birthday anniversary June 17. He is the oldest resident in Monticello and holds the Boston Post gold-headed cane. He received many cards and felicitations and Hiram G. Garrison, the town’s third oldest man, was a dinner guest of Mr. Nason.

Name change — Town & Country is the new name of a Market Square business that has been in Houlton for over 40 years. The change in name from the former Army and Navy store was announced this week by owners Bernard Hannan, Leigh Stewart and Eugene Hutchinson.
Father’s Day feast — C & G Grocery is featuring the following Father’s Day features in their ad: hen turkeys, 43 cents/lb.; beef chuck steak, 59 cents/lb.; Campbell’s tomato soup, 8 cans for 89 cents; two lbs. of tomatoes for 39 cents, plus S & H Green Stamps with each purchase.

Baltzer and Pound: Hall of Famers — Rebecca Baltzer and Darrell “Skip” Pound are two southern Aroostook athletes who will be inducted into the Owls Athletic Hall of Fame at UMPI. Baltzer, of Patten, was outstanding in field hockey and basketball. Pound was a top athlete in soccer, basketball and baseball.
Smyrna, Christmas in July — The Christmas spirit is coming early in Smyrna, six months early in fact, as townspeople are launching a drive to raise funds for Yule decorations. A rummage sale and adopt-a-pole program have been planned.
