HOULTON, Maine — Houlton senior Cam Clark will be playing in the 25th annual New England Interscholastic Golf Championship on Monday at the Bretwood Golf Course in Keene, N.H. The championships are presented by the Council of New England Secondary Principals’ Association.
Clark, who shot a 76 over 18 holes at the State Individual Tournament held in October at Natanis Country Club in Vassalboro, placed ninth on the Maine boy’s squad. At the state tournament, Clark came in third.
Maine Central Institute’s Gavin Dugas is the at the top of the leader board with a 71, followed by Mattanawcook’s Logan Thompson, 72; third, Bangor’s Drew Powell, 72; fourth, Oceanside’s Nick Mazurek, 72; fifth, Winthrop’s Adam Hachey, 73; sixth, Cheverus’ Chris Billings, 73; seventh, Cape Elizabeth’s Reese McFarlane, 74; and eighth, Scarborough’s Drew Kane, 75.
Rounding out the top 12 are 10th, Robbie Watson, Fort Fairfield, 76; 11th, Camden Hills’ Drew Holt, 76; and 12th, Camden Hill’s Drew Long, 76.
Each state can send up to 12 boys and girls teams to the competition.
“Cam plays very good golf,” said Houlton golf coach David Grant. “He thinks his way around the golf course. He knows what he wants to do at each hole. He has the mental aspect of the game to go along with his mechanics.
“He is going to do well at Husson on the golf team,” Grant added. “He is a big asset to that team.”
In the New England championships, players will be following an 18-hole stroke play format.
Clark is the son of Tina and Dean Clark of Houlton.
