FORT KENT, Maine — “Paul Cyr Photography,” an exhibition of prize-winning photographic works by Presque Isle resident Paul Cyr, will be on display at the University of Maine at Fort Kent’s Acadian Archives through Sept. 30.
A Hamlin native, Cyr started taking pictures in the early 1960s and his photography has become a lifetime hobby. He spends time every day looking for new photographic opportunities. He takes 99 percent of his photographs in northern Maine, most within 10 miles of his Presque Isle home.
Late summer aerials, which hold a prominent location at the archives, are some of his favorite scenes to shoot.
The exhibit is free and open to the public during the Archives’ regular business hours, Mondays through Fridays, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., during the summer months.
More than 20 County businesses use Cyr’s photographs for websites, Facebook pages, report covers and tourist guides, to mention a few. People will find his work featured prominently in Bangor Metro, Boston Globe, Yankee and DownEast magazines, and at Pratt & Whitney and Bath Iron Works. He and his works have been featured twice on the Bangor-based television show “Bill Greene’s Maine.”
Last year, Cyr and author Dottie Hutchins published the book “Acadian Roots: Images of the St. John Valley” (Racines Acadiennes: Images de la Vallée Saint-Jean.”
His photographs may be seen at paulcyr.zenfolio.com and on his Facebook page, Paul Cyr Photography.
