Company lauded for helping neighbors

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Catholic Charities Maine recently presented the Community Partner Award to Thompson-Hamel, LLC in recognition of their outstanding commitment to community service and their donation of time, talent and resources.
Based in Presque Isle, the financial services firm held its inaugural Irish Fest in March, with proceeds benefiting Catholic Charities Maine’s Farm for ME program.
Farm for ME is designed to increase local access to nutritious vegetables, reduce food insecurity and improve food sustainability in northern Maine by growing vegetables on three acres of donated farmland and distributing the harvest through 24 food pantries in Aroostook County.
The first-time event raised more than $10,000 for the cause.
“We are so grateful for Thompson-Hamel’s support of our Farm for ME program,” said Dixie Shaw, director of hunger and relief services for Catholic Charities Maine. “They truly went above and beyond to ensure the event was a success, and it is because of their and all the event sponsors’ commitment that we are able to do what we do to ensure no one in northern Maine goes hungry.”
For more than 48 years, Catholic Charities Maine has provided community-based social services to people of all faiths, beliefs and economic backgrounds. It is one of the largest human service agencies in the state, and according to officials more than 92 cents of every dollar received goes directly to serving those in need.
