King-Mitchell post 7529 held their monthly supper June 20 at the post home with chef, Grey Hawk, doing the cooking, with help from his trusty helpers, Cathy and Lizabet.
The menu was roast pork, baked ham, assorted vegetables, dessert and, of course, coffee and tea. The weather was great, mosquitos and blackflies were few and many enjoyed this meal to show their support for the VFW and also to chat with friends and neighbors during the evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Dean Fitzgerald have arrived from their home in Millinocket to open their cottage on Pleasant Pond where they will spend the summer months, enjoying the boating, swimming and fishing.
Graveside services for Clayton Webb will be held Saturday, June 27, at 1 o’clock, with a reception for friends and family to be held at the King-Mitchell post home immediately after the service.
Things have been pretty quiet around my place the past week or two. Since the demise of the groundhog, who had been having a heyday digging up my flower garden (and found quite dead at my neighbor’s house), no more groundhogs have taken his place — and for that, I am grateful, as he left quite a mess behind.
I think if I put out sunflower seeds now and then that I would have chickadees, finch and swallows around again and as the weather has been quite cool, I may just do that. It is fun to watch them flying in and around the feeders and having their little squabbles to see who gets to eat first.
I still have the hummingbirds coming all day and am lucky enough to see them several times a day. They come and go so fast and do not linger.
I haven’t seen any more deer down back for a week or so, and am hoping that before long they will continue to come to my back lawn and graze to their hearts’ content.
