PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The pilot of a powered parachute was uninjured after crashing into a tree Saturday.
Fred Haines of Mapleton was flying west near Center Line Road at about 10:50 a.m. when winds interfered with his ability to gain the altitude necessary to fly over a hill, said Richard Wark, deputy fire chief. He ended up crashing into a tree.
“He kind of settled in the tree, upright, still strapped in,” said Wark, adding there were no injuries.
Presque Isle police and Crown Ambulance also responded to the call, Wark said.
