On Aug. 15, Adopt-a-Block of Aroostook (AABA) will be hosting its seventh annual Back to School Block Party and Backpack Giveaway. Each year at our block party, we distribute backpacks filled with school supplies; provide free haircuts, fresh produce, clothing and lunch along with many other activities for the community. This year, we will be continuing this tradition.
We are joining with local businesses and banks, including WHOU Radio to provide a broadcast live from our location at 307 Military Street. It is a great chance to gather the community together and provide those in need with supplies for the upcoming school year.
We are contacting local businesses to ask for their assistance in making this year’s Block Party a success. School supplies are being donated by many members of our community, but we are in need of backpacks. Our goal this year is to provide a minimum of 300 backpacks to children in the Houlton area who otherwise would not have essential school supplies. For every $35 we raise, we will be able to provide a backpack filled with school supplies to a child.
