The Penobscot Valley Conference handed out its post-season awards recently, and several local athletes gained recognition.
In Class B softball, Presque Isle’s Hailey Cameron earned a spot on the first team.
She was joined by Rachel Marti, Brittany Cousins and Lauren Martin, all of Old Town; Karli Thebarge and Hailey Perry, both of Hermon; Molly Carroll of Mount Desert Island; Callie Hammer and Leah Stevens, both of Ellsworth; and Grace Bickford and Alli Bourget, both of Foxcroft Academy.
Earning honorable mention were Cassidy Parady and Avalon Kerley, both of MDI; Karah Hussey and Kayla Madden, both of Old Town; Claire Peterson and Kylie Kennedy, both of Hermon; Jenna Clukey of Foxcroft Academy and Abby Lynch of Ellsworth.
All-academic team members from the region were Presque Isle’s Erin Ackerson, Jessica Cameron, Kelsey Gilson and Megan Seward and Caribou’s Morgan Outing, Brianna Judd and Katie Pelletier.
Martin was named player and pitcher of the year and Jenn Plourde of Old Town and Megan McCrum of Hermon were selected as co-coaches of the year.
For baseball, Ben Buckley of Presque Isle was named to the first team. Joining him were Eric Hoogterp of Old Town, Conor Maguire and Nick Bagley, both of Ellsworth; Nick Guerrette, Connor Farmer and Tyler Beaton, all of Hermon; and Abe Simpson and Brooks Law, both of Foxcroft Academy.
Caribou’s Jacob Burby and Presque Isle’s Sam Gray and Andrew Paterson were part of the second team, which also included Adam Richardson, Tyler Young, T.J. Crawford and Tyler Byther, all of Old Town; Thomas Paola of MDI and Sam Southwick of John Bapst.
Caribou’s Dylan Conroy and Emma Jandreau (manager) and Presque Isle’s Bradley Guerrette and Aubrie Gross (manager) were all-academic selections.
Hoogterp was named player of the year and he shared pitcher of the year honors with Maguire. Foxcroft’s Mark Chevalier was chosen as coach of the year.
Making the girls’ first team in tennis doubles were Ashley Matlock and Ciara Richards of Caribou. They were joined by Crystal Bell and Alice Podolsky of John Bapst. In singles, first teamer were Sarah Shelton of Ellsworth, Sarah Storgaard of John Bapst and Sarah Phelps of MDI.
Caribou’s Gabrielle Marquis was on the second team for singles players, joining Ivy Wallace of MDI and Shannon Curran of John Bapst.
In doubles, making the second team were Emily McCarthy and Olivia McCarthy of MDI and Sammy Mason and Hannah Craig of Ellsworth.
Shelton and Storgaard were named co-players of the year. Presque Isle’s Hilary Boucher was an all-academic selection along with Makayla Bouchard of Caribou.
On the boys’ side, Chase Norton of Presque Isle and Michael Marquis of Caribou made the singles’ second team, while Alec Cyr and Austin Scott made the second team in doubles. Those on the first team in singles were Luke Horton of MDI, Fernando Caceres of Foxcroft Academy and Paul Branch of John Bapst, while Anthony Gardner and Jarred Whitney of Ellsworth and David Carmack and Charlie Hanscom made the first team in doubles.
Other second-teamers were singles player Alec Toothaker of Ellsworth and doubles players Kyle Lima and John Fendl of Ellsworth.
Horton was named player of the year.
Making the all-academic boys’ tennis team from Caribou were Brendan Cyr and Marquis.
In girls’ track and field, Presque Isle’s Tori Koch made the first team in the 100-meter dash, while Caribou’s Eileen Patton made the first team in the 100-meter high hurdles and teammate Nerissa Larrabee the first team in the high jump. Koch made the second team in the 400, while the Vikings’ Sarah Doak made the second team in both the 1,600-meter run and the 3,200-meter run. Patton was a second-teamer in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles and the javelin and Presque Isle’s Regan Nelson made the second team in the shot put and the discus.
Others on the second team were Caribou’s Madeline Gudde in the 800, Emma Belyea and Simona Amerio in the 1,600-meter race walk, the 4×400-meter relay team of Patton, Meagan Dube, Elise Gudde and Madeline Gudde; and the 4×800-meter relay team of Doak, Chelsea Haney, Julia Page and Madeline Gudde.
Making the girls’ all-academic team from Caribou were Doak, Nerissa Larrabee, Robyn Larrabee and Elise Gudde.
Mitchell St. Peter of Caribou was a first team boys’ selection in the race walk and teammate Dominick Judd made the first team in both the 110-meter high hurdles and the 300-meter intermediate hurdles. Those on the second team were the Vikings’ Chathu Karunasiri in the 3,200-meter run and Evan Desmond and Bryce Coffin in the 1,600-meter race walk. Connor Murchison of Presque Isle made the second team for the high jump.
Making the boys’ all-academic team from Caribou were Kristopher Michaud, St. Peter, and Austin Griffeth. Presque Isle’s selections were Austin Albert and Wesley Thibault.
