Plans are underway for the 15th annual Stacyville Strawberry Festival.
Sponsored by the Sherman Area VFW Post 2299, the Strawberry Festival will be held Friday, July 10, to Sunday, July 12, at the VFW Post Home in Stacyville. Everyone is welcome to attend.
The schedule of events is as follows:
Friday, July 10
Photo contest — All day until Sunday. Enter photos for contest.
5-6 p.m. or until gone — Roast pork supper w/corn on cob and baked potatoes; donations.
6 p.m. — $250 raffle drawing.
Saturday, July 11
9 a.m.-3 p.m. — Flea market/yard sale/vendors. Free space to set up your own table and/or canopy on lawn. Call 365-4832.
11 a.m. — Parade. Theme: “The Great Outdoors.” Everyone is invited to participate with floats, bikes, etc.
11:30 a.m. — Auction with auctioneer Jim Pratt.
11 a.m.-3 p.m. — Hot dogs; dough boys; strawberry shortcake.
12-2 p.m. — Kids’ games.
5-6 p.m. or until gone —Ham/bean supper w/strawberry shortcake – donations
6 p.m. — $250 raffle drawing.
9 p.m. — Fireworks by local residents at Qualey’s Potato House, Rte. 11, Stacyville.
Sunday, July 12
8-9 a.m. — Breakfast, $5: sausage and pancakes, juice, coffee, milk.
10 a.m.-3 p.m. — Yard sale.
9 a.m. — Horseshoe tournament; $10 entry. Two classes. Pick of the draw. Cash prizes given.
10 a.m. — Four-wheeler ride with Katahdin Valley Wheeler Club. Starts and returns at VFW.
11 a.m.-3 p.m. — Hot dogs.
2-6 p.m. — Live music – open mike.
3 p.m. — Kids’ cupcake and cake contest judging.
3:30 p.m. — Photo contest judging.
5-6 p.m. or until gone — Chicken barbecue; donations.
6 p.m. — $250 raffle drawing.
Rules
The photo contest rules (age 16 and over) are as follows:
1: Photos can be any size in black & white or color. No minimum.
2: Can submit photos anytime between Friday and Sunday; of course, the sooner you bring them, the more people will see them and vote. Photos will be judged by People’s Choice by secret ballot.
3: Photos must be in a standing frame or on your own sturdy photo display stand.
4: Your name and photo category must be written on back of photos.
5: Amateur photographers only
6: Must pick up your own photos. VFW will not return them to you.
Categories: Choose from “Family Fun,” “Funny” or “Maine Skies” for your themes; as many as you want to enter.
Prizes will be $10 for first place in each category, with ribbons for second and third places.
The kids cupcake contest rules (ages up to 16) are as follows:
1: At least 12 cupcakes must be registered at the VFW no later than 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 12.
2: Any flavor. Cupcakes will be judged on presentation.
3: Cupcakes become property of VFW following judging.
Prizes will be $10 for first place and a ribbon for second.
Rules for the adult cake contest (ages 16 and over) are as follows:
1: Cake must be equal in size to at least one full cake mix.
2: Any flavor. Cakes will be sampled by discriminating judges.
3: Amateur bakers only.
4: Cakes become property of VFW following judging.
5: Cakes must be registered at VFW no later than 2 p.m. Sunday, July 12.
Prizes for cake contest are $20 for first place and a ribbon for second.
