BRUNSWICK, Maine — Bernadette Farrar, an instructor at the RSU 29/SAD 70 Adult Education Program, was the recipient of the 2015 Outstanding Adult Education Teacher Award at the Maine Adult Education Association (MAEA) conference held at Bowdoin College June 16-18.
Farrar was nominated by the RSU 29/70 Houlton Hodgdon Adult Education program and was selected by the statewide awards committee.
In part, her nomination stated that since joining adult education in 1997, Farrar has been self-motivated in developing and maintaining her own knowledge in adult learning. She has been a teacher, leader, and mentor in program adoption of student assessments, student career advising, student achievement standards, and personal enrichment programming for the Houlton area.
Her latest journey into “the land of overachievement” will lead her to a master’s degree in adult education in the spring of 2016.
“As the lead teacher in the Houlton-Hodgdon adult education program she exemplifies strong collaboration and fiscal management skills by partnering with adult educationand student service agencies across Aroostook County,” said Otis Smith, director of the RSU 29/SAD 70 Adult Education program. “Her desire to see adult education available to more students via distance learning has motivated her to stay on the cutting edge of technology and Google-base student engagement. Bernadette has consistently supported students by serving statewide on the MAEA Board and on subcommittees for technology, marketing, and corrections. She is truly deserving of this award.”
In addition to her teaching duties she serves as the assistant director for the RSU 29/SAD 70 Adult Education program.
