Story Time coming soon to Hansen library
MARS HILL NEWS
by Tomi Henderson
The Walter T.A. Hansen Memorial Library is pleased to announce that it will be having Story Time!
On Tuesday, July 14, it will be open for children entering pre-K, kindergarten and first grade and on Thursday, July 16, it will be open for children entering second, third and fourth grade. Both sessions will begin at 10 a.m. and all children must be accompanied by an adult.
Once school resumes, there will be a story time for preschoolers. Library officials are very excited about this new venture and the chance to expand the awareness of reading to our young readers.
Memorial Concert
There will be a concert at the Mars Hill/Blaine Sargent and Tweedie Bandstand in memory of Rudy Bell on Sunday, July 12. From 3-5 p.m., Wally and the Virginians will be performing. From 5-8 p.m., The Mainely Country Band will be featured.
Sponsored by the Adelman family, folks are encouraged to stop by to enjoy the great music.
Library news
The Walter T. A. Hansen Memorial Library will hold its tag sale fundraiser at Grew’s on Main Street on Friday and Saturday, July 17 and 18 and July 24 and 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will also be open during this year’s Homecoming. The hours then will be Friday, Aug. 7 from 2-6 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 8 from 8 a.m.-noon.
Those with items they would like to donate for the sale are asked to contact any trustee — Ryan Shaw, Jill Lunney, Julie Bradstreet or Tomi Henderson — or by calling the library at 429-9625.
Rotary Club
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met June 30 at the Aroostook Health Center.
The special speakers were Vicki Jackson and Connie Durost from the activities department at the Aroostook Health Center. They spoke of the various activities enjoyed by the residents under their care. Many enjoy the group activities and games, but some folks prefer quieter things. One thing that Jackson and Durost have found to be beneficial is using an iPad. It helps improve the quality of life for residents by viewing pictures, playing one-on-one games, watching movies or listening to music.
Music is a good way to stimulate a person – both physically and mentally. Many folks that may not seem aware of things going on around them will be seen tapping their hands or feet in time to music that is familiar to them.
The Activities Department currently has one iPad that they use with their residents. They would love to have one or two more. If anyone would like to help with raising the funds for one, you can contact Jackson or Durost at 768-4932 or 768-4915.
