FF festival features sports

    FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine — The annual Maine Potato Blossom Festival will feature several sporting events for all ages. A list of this year’s offerings are as follows:

The 3-on-3 basketball tournament is Tuesday, July 14 beginning at 6 p.m. at the community center. Registration must be completed by 5:45 p.m. and the cost is $40 per team. Contact Tom Towle by phone at 472-3882 or 227-6306 or by email at ttowle@fortfairfield.org.
The Fort Fairfield Municipal Swimming Pool will be the site of a swim meet Wednesday, July 15. It starts at 9 a.m. and the rain date will be Friday, July 17.
The junior girls’ softball tourney will be held Thursday, July 16 beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Fort Fairfield Athletic Complex. The single-elimination tournament is for girls ages 9-12 and the rain date will be Friday, July 17.
The Potato Blossom 5-Miler Road Race is on Saturday, July 18. Walkers set off at 8:30 a.m. and runners at 9 a.m. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. across from Hillside IGA on Main Street. The registration fee is $15 and the first 70 to register receive a T-shirt. Call Paul Lamoreau at 764-6517 or 554-6576 for more information.
Aroostook Valley Country Club hosts a three-person scramble golf tournament Saturday, July 18. The minimum team handicap must be 30 and prizes will be awarded to the teams with the lowest gross scores. To register, call the pro shop at 476-8083.
The Spud Cycle Classic Bicycle Race and Tour is on Sunday, July 19.
The 25- and 12-mile events both start at 10 a.m. The shorter distance is for ages 15 and under and the touring division.
Registration is from 8-9:30 a.m. at Fort Fairfield Community Center. The races begins at the library on Main Street and ends at Hillcrest Estates. There will also be a “Floatilla” Sunday, July 19 starting at 2 p.m. at the Forbes Boat Landing and ending at the Fort Fairfield public boat landing. Anyone interested in spending an afternoon on the Aroostook River is invited to come and float or paddle. This is a non-racing event, so registration is not required.
