PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Dirigo Boys State was held at Thomas College in Waterville and Dirigo Girls State was held at Husson University in Bangor, both during the week of June 21-26.
The Dirigo State events are one-week summer programs sponsored by the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary.
Representing Presque Isle were, for Girls State, Emily Colligan, Kerrigan LeBlanc, Alisa Brewer, Mandy Graham and Alyssa Sweeney. Boys State delegates were Parker Lambert and Bryon Winslow.
The delegates learned about government at the state, county and municipal levels. They participated in setting up a mock state government though caucuses, campaigning and mock elections.
Some of the activities included governmental instruction, guest speakers, bill hearings and legislative sessions.
The Presque Isle Elks Lodge 1954, Kiwanis Club, Rotary Club, Aroostook County Letter Carriers, S.W Collins Co., Dead River Company and Governor’s Restaurant provided the financial support for the local student delegates.
