Deputy nabs wanted Mars Hill man

CASTLE HILL, Maine An Aroostook County Sheriff’s deputy Thursday evening chased down and took into custody a man wanted on a federal warrant.

According to Sheriff Darrell O. Crandall, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) notified the Sheriff’s Office that an arrest warrant had been issued by the U.S. District Court for Caleb Jewett, 24, of Mars Hill. DHS reported the arrest warrant was for violating the conditions of his supervised release.
Jewett is on federal probation for a 2012 charge of importation of methamphetamine.
On the evening of July 2, Deputy Sheriff Reid Clark encountered a vehicle at the intersection of Route 163 and the Scopan Road in Castle Hill. Clark identified Jewett as the passenger in the vehicle and told Jewett that he was taking him into custody on a federal arrest warrant.
Jewett tried to lock himself in the vehicle and then ran into the woods. Deputy Clark chased him down and a brief scuffle ensued, as Jewett continued to resist being arrested. Jewett was subdued and taken into custody, with no injuries to either him or the deputy.
Jewett was transported to the Aroostook County Jail, where he is being held on a federal detainer from the U.S. Marshals Service. He also now faces state charges of failure to submit to arrest.
