Beaver spring athletes lauded

    WASHBURN, Maine — The annual Washburn District high School spring sports awards night was held June 17 at Doc Albert Gymnasium.

Girls’ volleyball coach Tammy Tatlock presented plaques, certificates and pins to Mackenzie Worcester, Joan Overman, Tyra Shaw, Mikayla Churchill, Hannah Heald, Jacqueline McCarthy, Nicholle Tozier, Emelia Churchill, Grace Braley, Kelsey Farr, Macey Barker, Jillian Mandeville and manager Laina Mette.    All-star recognition went to Overman and Worcester. The MVP was Worcester, best offensive player was Overman and the coach’s award went to Mikayla Churchill.
Tatlock presented plaques, certificates and pins to Keith McGraw, Alex Pelletier, Justin Davis, Michael Ericson, Tony Roman, Kenny Irving, Parker Thompson, Cameron Preston, McCall Turner, Noah Farley, and managers Noah Caron and Laina Mette.
Farley and Pelletier were honored all all-star players. Pelletier was the MVP, Farley was named most versatile player and McCall Turner earned the coach’s award.
Coach Kolbie Churchill of the track and field team presented senior recognition awards to Michael Ericson, Overman, Brittany Hernandez, Reuben Roman, Mikayla Churchill, Marianne Helton and Shaw.
Certificates and letters went to Konner Jordan, Jacob Sperrey, Mackenzy Ronco  and Roman.
Certificates and pins were awarded to Ericson, Bryce Roix, Derek Baker, Ethan Butler, Devon Maynard, Helton, Shaw, Mikayla Churchill, Overman, Hernandez, Macey Barker and manager Jessica Aube.
A third-year letter award was given to Helton. All-Aroostook recognition went to Devon Maynard, Overman and Ronco.
The boys’ MVP was Ronco and the girls’ MVP was Overman. The boys’ co-coach’s award recipients were Roman and Jordan, while the girls coach’s award winner was Hernandez and the most improved award went to Mikayla Churchill.
Baseball coach Ben Goodwin gave a certificate to Butler, certificate and pins to Cameron Bragg, Ericson, Noah Farley, Pelletier, Caron, Parker Thompson, Brandon Farley, Davis, Kevin Jordan, Jarrett Olson, Turner, Caleb Thompson, Carter Doak and managers Marienna Bragg and Owen James.
Three-year letter award winners were Davis, Caron, Pelletier, Parker Thompson and Doak.
All-Aroostook went to Caron, Noah Farley and Olson.
The team MVP was Noah Farley, the co-coach’s award recipients were Caron and Turner and the most improved player was Ericson.
Softball coaches Tatlock and Dave Heald presented certificates and letters to Jacquline West and Lacey Farley, certificates and pins to Worcester, Overman, Mette, Emelia Churchill, Rachel Driscoll, Heald, Amber Dubois, Mikayla Churchill, Catelynn Coulombe, Braley, Barker, Mariah Davis, Liza Durette, Brittany Corey, Farr, and manager Kaitlyn Maynard.
Three-year letter awards were presented to Coulombe, Mikayla Churchill, Heald, Braley, Corey and Durette. Mikayla Churchill was the choice for MVP and Heald and Durette were the co-coach’s award recipients. Worcester was named best defensive player, while the most improved player was Corey.
A varsity jacket went to Braley (eight letters). Worcester was honored for accumulating four varsity letters during the 2014-15 school year, while Overman, Emelia Churchill, Mikayla Churchill and Michael Ericson were cited for earning five varsity letters during the school year. Ericson also was recognized for the special achievement of earning 17 varsity letters during his high school career.
