The Island Falls Alumni banquet will be held Aug. 1 at the municipal building starting at 6 p.m. Reservations are available and to make one call 463-2372. Payments for the supper ($12.50) may be paid in advance, also the $5 dues or they can be collected at the door.
The Summer Fest activities are in full swing and many people are involved and are hoping that the activities will be enjoyed by many. Whittier Congregational Church will start things off by having their annual church fair and food sale, featuring all sorts of homemade goodies at the food table and a wide assortment of dishes, jewelry, books and toys. You name it — they have it — so come in and browse and find something you like. It has been very quiet around my house the past couple of weeks — no groundhogs digging away and no rabbits seen eating the clover that is growing like crazy on my back lawn. I did see a big grey squirrel once when he came leaping across my front lawn toward the bird feeders to look for a handout there. Alas, he left without a morsel as I haven’t put out any bird seed for a couple of weeks now. When the weather gets cooler he will probably return to eat his fill, and perhaps I will see more activity in my backyard.
